Woman rescued in Llyn Peninsula windsurf drama

A WINDSURFER was treated for breathing difficulties after being swept into the sea by the currents at Hell's Mouth.

The 20-year-old was dragged into the sea while windsurfing in waves off the Llyn Peninsula beach, which is popular with surfers.

A kaleidoscope of brightly colored sails breezed across the Banana River as more than 50 kids learned to windsurf at the 10th Annual Junior Olympic Windsurfing Festival at Kelly Park in Merritt Island.

The free learn-to-windsurf lesson, sponsored by Calema Windsurfing and Watersports, provided for lots of family fun at Saturday's event.

Yorktown man takes windsurfing crown

Dave Kashy, 47, of Yorktown won his fifth consecutive East Coast Formula Windsurfing Championship Regatta on Sept. 22-23 but this time he had to settle for a tie in the waters off Annapolis, Md.

He shared top honors with Chris Waerzeggers of Belgium, a training partner for several weeks going into the regatta.

"He'd been helping me train for the World Championships in Brazil. By training together, it made us both faster," Kashy said. "He was better in lighter winds and I was better in stronger winds."

As for Annapolis, there was little wind. There were no races the first day because of insufficient winds and the next day there was only enough wind for two races. Kashy and Waerzeggers each finished with a first and second in those races.
